Great Stadium. Good game. And I’m looking for three weeks of great football.
Footage of Gamal Mubarak in Nancy Agram’s song aside, a lot of effort was put into organizing this championship. Here’s a video about the volunteers that have been working on preparation and organization.
I hope at the end we can say that in terms of organization this was a success. And that we win too.
But most importantly, this championship, like many sports analysts have noted, is the birthplace for the next generation of footballers. Youth championships in general produce the next line for the countries’ first team, that if the opportunity is seized.
There is a trend, I’m told, in different sports around the world to focus more on youngsters. Prepare the youngest team to play for two age groups, so they get more experience in international games.
And I hope Egypt is considering taking the same approach. I was glad to see Hassan Shehata in the audience, watching with his signature stressed look. Maybe we’ll see some of these players in his next line up. Maybe
But for now, GO EGYPT!
